For her spring/summer couture
, Anne Valérie Hash, the designer, transformed garments belonging to her closest friends into Haute Couture creations. A striped sleeve from the wardrobe of Paul Gaultier’s sailor sweater was transformed into the neckline of a hologram-sequin gown. Hash also turned a ballet shoe into a glove and a dress into a little hat.
The other features that were transformed by her for the spring/summer couture collection were the pyjamas belonging to the Lanvin designer, Alber Elbaz; Tilda Swinton’s slogan T-shirt; rocker Peter Doherty’s old military jacket; and a Chanel jacket given by the millionaire couture collector, Daphne Guinness.
Taking these donations, together with a variety of pieces from other friends, Hash re-worked each one into unique designs, involving other designers as well as her own vision.
She incorporated Elbaz’s traditional, striped and piped pyjama jacket into a black, sequined all-in-one. Swinton’s T-shirt was re-worked as part of a jacket in metallic lame. Doherty’s once-prized military jacket was taken apart, and changed into a ‘mod’ jacket with panels of multi-coloured sequins, while the gilt ‘frogging’ was incorporated into the front of a T-shirt worn underneath.
Hash has decided to do something personal and very different from her competitors with big fashion houses. Altogether 14 pieces were designed by Hash and according to her these are not to be sold. It is an experiment she said that she intend to continue in her couture collections.
In contrast Hash has a ready-to-wear collection which are equally desirable, but also designed to be sold. Her spring/summer collection be available at Fenwick, New Bond Street, W1, in a couple of months.
